CONSULTATION ON SCHOOL ADMISSION ARRANGEMENTS 2028/29

St John's Catholic Junior School is carrying out a consultation on the proposed admission arrangements for admission in September 2028/29.

Admission arrangements are the overall procedure, practices and oversubscription criteria used in deciding the allocation of school places. The consultation is being carried out by the school/governing body. There has been a slight change to the admission policy from previous years. This relates to the oversubscription criteria and is based on the criteria giving priority to Catholic applicants above all other applicants.  The Governing Body is fulfilling its statutory duty to consult due to these changes.

The proposed admission arrangements are published on the schools website or by contacting Mrs E Mullins at schooloffice@stjohns-junior.wirral.sch.uk (On behalf of the Governing Body).

Any comments on the proposed admission arrangements should be sent to schooloffice@stjohns-junior.wirral.sch.uk for the attention of Anthony Rutherford (Chair of Governors).

The consultation opens on Thursday 22 October and closes on Wednesday 2 December 2026.

Induction for Children From St. John’s Infant School

• We strive to ensure that we give children the best possible start when they join us at St John’s Catholic Junior School and to make the families feel welcome and well informed about our school.

• The teachers from both St John’s Catholic Junior School and St John’s Catholic Infant school liaise closely about each pupil’s needs, assessments and next steps in their learning to ensure a smooth transition to the Junior School.

Staff and pupils from both schools engage in a joint transition project in the Summer Term.

• Year 2 parents and pupils are encouraged to visit the school on an open day and are invited to an induction evening in the Summer term, where they can meet the staff and share information in an informal setting.

• Following on from this, the children are invited to visit the Junior School for short visits and stay for lunch. This ensures we meet individual needs and can help to settle children into our school quickly and happily.

• Both schools work hard to ensure both parents are pupils happy, fully informed and there is a smooth transfer to the Junior School.
