What is Pupil Premium?

Pupil Premium is a sum of money given to schools by the Government to improve the attainment of disadvantaged children.  This is based on research showing children from specific backgrounds and/or low-income families perform less well at school than their peers. 

Who is Eligible for Pupil Premium? 

Pupil Premium eligibility is complex due to the various criteria parameters.  Below is a list of some qualifying criteria for Pupil Premium:-

  • Pupils who are eligible for free school meals, or have been eligible in the past 6 years (including eligible children of families with no recourse to public funds)

  • Pupils who have been adopted from care or have left care

  • Children who are looked after by the local authority

At St John’s Junior School we guarantee equal access to learning opportunities and a positive educational experience for all. As explained above, the aim of Pupil Premium funding to remove the barriers to learning for these pupils and improve their current and future life opportunities. All members of teaching staff, support staff and governors accept responsibility for those pupils who qualify for pupil premium and are committed to meeting their pastoral, social and academic needs within a caring environment.
